SOPAC Wishes You a Safe & Fun May 24th Weekend

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

SOPAC (Save Our People Action Committee) News Release

Thursday, May 18th, 2017.

With the May 24th long weekend around the corner, SOPAC would like to wish everyone a wonderful and very safe weekend. While driving to and from your favorite destinations please be vigilant of your safety and surroundings. Don’t be distracted and do drive to the posted limits and conditions of the roads.

SOPAC is very pleased to announce a Partnership again this year with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (Transportation Department). Together we will continue with a Public Education and Awareness Campaign regarding safety on our highways.

A very successful meeting we attended last week with the Forestry and Wildlife Division of our Government estimated that the population of Moose in our province to be 114,000, and every single one of these moose is a definite threat to each and every resident and tourist who will be travelling our Highways and Byways this summer.

Although Moose are majestic animals, they are a big safety risk on our highways and byways. Moose are now wandering the highways. Accidents have begun and sightings are increasing.

PLEASE BE AWARE—BE SAFE
