WELCOME TO SOPAC

Efforts to clear away brush on provincial highways are now underway.

In total, 25 routes across the island and route 516 in Labrador are scheduled to have the work done this fall.

Over the last two years, the province has spent over $4-million to clear over 800 hectares province-wide.

This year’s work has already begun.

ABOUT SOPAC

SOPAC (Save Our People Action Committee) was officially formed in 2009 by survivors of moose vehicle collisions. This group came together to take on and highlight the problem of moose on the highways in Newfoundland and Labrador.

SOPAC is responding to the need to identify and record Collision Hot Spots for Moose in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

It has become evident by the number of Moose Vehicle Collisions that are re-occurring in many of the same locations and the continued number of moose sightings being recorded in the media and on the various social media channels that there are patterns and Government should recognize them, and take action to protect the drivers on our highways.

Therefore, SOPAC would like to collect and record these. We will compile a list of the locations to present to Government in the hopes they will take action by using long proven effective methods such as fencing, especially in areas where moose accidents are most prevalent.

Please have your friends and family do the same!

To record the location – we need specific details, any distinguishing markings in the area, any history of accidents in the area you are aware of.

We appreciate any and all support in this effect!
